Another bread recipie from the OHG Yahoo group.

Ancient Rye Bread

2 pkgs (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast 1-1/2 c warm water (110° to 115°) 1/2 c molasses 6 T butter, softened 2 c rye flour 1/4 c baking cocoa 2 T caraway seeds 2 t canning salt 3-1/2 to 4 c all-purpose flour unbleached Cornmeal

Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half. Shape each piece into a loaf, about 10 in. long. Grease two baking sheets and sprinkle with cornmeal. Place loaves on prepared pans.

Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

Bake at 350° for 35-40 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool. Makes 2 loaves.

This is from the OHG Yahoo group. This really sound great and thought I’d pass it on for everyone to try. Logan Bread 4 lbs (14 1/2 cups) whole wheat flour 1 1/2 c brown sugar 1/2 c instant dry milk 1 t canning salt 2 t baking powder 1 t cinnamon 1 t ground nutmeg 1 c chopped nuts 4 c water 1 1/4 c honey 1 1/2 c blackstrap molasses 1 1/4 c melted shortening 2 c dried fruit Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. To blended dry ingredients, add water, then honey, molasses, shortening and fruit. Pour batter about an inch thick into greased pans and bake for 1 hour. Reduce oven to 200 degrees F, leave door open slightly and continue to dry bread for several hours. The drier it is, the longer it will keep. This makes a huge batch of sixty 2-inch squares, high in protein, vitamins, iron and calcium. Keeps weeks on the trail, longer in the fridge and indefinitely in the freezer.

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y’ALL. HOPE EVERYONE HAS A WONDERFUL, FUN FILLED AND SAFE HOLIDAY.

The Real Issue

With all this talk about gun bans after the tragic event in Newtown, CT on Friday December 14 2012, one must wonder why everyone blames the gun. No one wants to look at the person behind the trigger and what state of mind he or she is in. A firearm can not simply get up, load itself, and decide who it wants to harm on any given day. It takes a living, breathing person with some sort of mental illness or has it in their mind that they want to harm one or many. People should take a look at events in the past as well as what has happened in the days of the shooting in CT.

In this video, 3 students in upstate South Carolina were suspended over a “kill list”. And thing that bothers me is that if these three students have the mental capacity to write out a kill list and get away with it and administrators and investigators say there is no “substance” or “threat”, then who’s to say that the next time these individuals acyually carry out their plan? I don’t know about you but to me this is a big red flag and should not be taken lightly. Especially after the shooting in CT.

In this article, there was a 24 year old Pomona, California man who made threats about carrying out a copycat shooting such as that of the that happened in CT. Investigators had arrested him, charged him, found and took 9 weapons at his parents house where he was arrested, but no weapons found at his place, and set his bail at $500,000. However on a few days later, the county District Attorney as well as federal investigators dropped all charges because “no specific person or school” was threatened. Again, a person who has the mind set to even make non specific threats and have access to firearms even though he had none, same as in CT, and investigators do nothing.

Now in this case, we have a student who turned to social media to make his threats. And by the way a family member of one of the victims from Newtown, CT alerted officals to this students threats. Now this teen was arrested, however, they are not sure if they are going to press charges.

Now these are just 3 of the many many case of threats of copycat of the shooting in CT, but no one seems to take any of them seriously or no charges or mental evaluations are ordered. It is in my opinion that people like these make law abiding and mentally sane gun owners/carriers the target of the government and their gun control laws and bans. However I also believe that it is all political and the government has a different agenda than what we as American citizens know. But that is another story.

People need to wake up to the fact that the crimes commited by these people are not caused by the weapons, it their mental capacity in which they think. The type of people who carry out or threaten these types of crimes, show signs of something wrong. They may be obvious or they may be not so obvious, but the signs or red flags are there. Family members need to constantly talk with their loved ones or even close friends. Their may never be a 100% answer on how to stop these crimes, but to enact tougher gun laws or outright gun bans is not the answer. With that said, take a look at the crime rates of citys and towns that have gun bans, Chicago, Washington D.C. their crime rate of violent crimes is through the roof because the criminals know that not everyone is going to have a means to protect themselves.

We all need to do out part and protect the 2nd amendment as our right to bear arms. Contact your Congressperson, Senator and President and tell them that banning “assault” style weapons use for sport shooting, and high capacity magazines is not the answer to the problem.

A History Project

So here recently I have started on a project that involves history, namely the Great Northern Railroad and it’s history. I forget how it got started, but something was said about Willmar, MN and I looked at it on Google maps. Well I found a sizeable yard. Then from there I followed the tracts east to Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN then followed the tracks west as far as Fargo, ND.

Well I have begun collecting photos of a place called Breckenridge, MN which is west of Willmar. I have cound a couple of USGS maps for Willmar, MN and I have for a senority list for the Willmar Division from the ’20’s if memory serves me correctly. I have asked a lot of people for information and so far the responce is great, and thats how I was giev a few photos. But as one gentleman said it, “you need to settle one one place, find out what you can, then move on” so thats what I am going to do. I have settled on Willmar, MN and I plan on finding out what I can about the railroad and the town and collect as much data before I move on to the next segment.

So, if anyone wishes to jump aboard and help out, I am open to anyone who wishes to do this as a personal project, not for some book or monetary gain to help out. You can email me at mountainrain897@yahoo.com and we can talk about this. Otherwise, its just gonna be a fun long term hobby project that I will work on.

Happy Trails,

Charles

Heavy Heart

For a while now I have been trying to figure out what has been going on with me. However, I think now I have found the answer. I have a heavy heart and its filled with hurt, grief, sorrow and depression.

I believe it all started when my father dies in November of 2004. I didn’t grieve until the following year. And ever since, it’s been difficult with hardly anyone understanding me with the exception of my wife. Then in May of 2006 my first baby wound up being a miscarriage and that was hard enough. Then things seem to calm down over the next few years, but I started sinking into depression and having anxiety or panic attacks. So thins year I finally got on meds to help control my mood swings and emotions, but I read about the destruction of our wildlife and the senceless killings of Wolves and their pack and I cry for them when I se the sad images. It seems like no matter how many petitions I sign, or talk to others about my side of the issue, I seem to get kicked in the face. I know I should not be like this over wildlife, but I can not help it, its who I am and it hurts to see a helpless animal stare at the hunter for the last time and take a bullet just because the hunter could. When will it all stop. I see on the news cops killing trained family dogs in cold blood, I also see the senceless killing of ourselves. And for what? Money? Power? Or for the game of it? I think its all a big game and its only going o get worse before it gets better.

I told myself that I will try to be the voice to those who have no voice and help those who need it the most and ask nothing in return.
